Improving Management of Diabetes

Diabetes in adults has almost doubled since 2001. One in 20 Australians has diabetes, and Aboriginal Australians are nearly three times more likely to have diabetes.
Complications from diabetes account for seven per cent of potentially avoidable hospital admissions. Poor diabetes management increases the risk of other health problems like stroke and heart disease.
By helping people to better manage their diabetes, we can reduce the number of people visiting emergency departments and being admitted to hospital and improve their quality of life.
We will work with consumers, health services, clinical experts, peak bodies and community providers to increase the number of people who receive evidence-based care and promote programs that help improve self-management of diabetes.
