The event is now full.

Effective communication underpins the patient journey and is a fundamental component in clinical governance. It is also a principle in the Australian Charter of Health Care Rights in Victoria. When care goes wrong, it undermines the ability for consumers to partner in their own healthcare.

We've engaged Deakin University’s Centre for Organisational Change in Person-Centred Healthcare to offer you access to experiential learning to advance your communication skills.

This workshop will help you:

  • develop skills to identify a shared agenda early in a consultation
  • understand the benefits of an illness perspective
  • spot and respond to patient cues more effectively
  • learn how to bring structure to consultations
  • practice methods to deal with a patient experiencing strong emotions
  • develop skills to check that your patient understood what was said
  • engage in shared decision making
  • explore patient goals, values, hopes and fears to assist your clinical work
  • build confidence in discussing difficult and sensitive topics.

Places are strictly limited. Register by 19 September to secure your place.
