Innovation and improvement

Are you a clinician who cares for people undergoing the removal of their gallbladder during bariatric surgery? Do you have lived experience of bariatric surgery in a Victorian public hospital?

We are calling on clinicians and consumers to help us develop guidance on non-urgent, elective surgery to better inform patient choices.

Some non-urgent elective procedures only offer benefits to patients under very specific circumstances.

In February 2021, we released Best Care guidance on 26 elective surgeries, providing evidence-based information on elective procedures and potential alternatives. View the list.

We are adding more procedures to that list and the Advisory Group has selected the procedure removal of gallbladder during bariatric surgery. We are now looking for clinicians and consumers to help us produce guidance for this procedure, including identification of indications for this procedure and alternative pathways of care.

Join our Best Care Expert Working Group

We are inviting expressions of interest from:

  • clinicians from specialist surgical/medical, nursing, allied health and primary care backgrounds
  • consumers with lived experience of bariatric surgery (as a patient or carer) in a Victorian public hospital.
