One of VAHI’s key contributions to the COVID-19 pandemic response has been to adapt our reporting program across performance, health outcomes and patient experience to ensure that the impact of COVID-19 can be assessed, monitored and appropriately responded to.

Beyond our COVID-19 reporting on the VAHI portal, our work has included running additional COVID-19-relevant patient experience and population health surveys, as well as the creation of new reports and information products for use by the Department of Health and Human Services, Safer Care Victoria and health services.

In October, VAHI released a monthly report on patient outcome measures to assist in detecting indirect impacts of the pandemic at a cluster level. This report includes measures of in-hospital mortality, unplanned readmissions and average Functional Independence Measure (FIM™) gain in sub-acute care.

Ongoing development of this report, in partnership with clinical experts, will also deliver outcome measures relating to hospital-acquired complications in the November report and a range of measures from clinical quality registries soon after.
