During November, VAHI and Safer Care Victoria (SCV) travelled 1,880 km in partnership to deliver 14 events around the state. The patient experience roadshow has included visits to Bairnsdale, Warrnambool, Wangaratta and Swan Hill.

A diverse audience, including board members, CEOs, executive, clinicians, educators, researchers and consumers attended the events, all sharing an interest in improving their understanding of patients’ experiences of care.

The workshops provided interactive access to Victorian Healthcare Experience Survey (VHES) data via the VHES portal. Participants shared their experiences of using the data to inform safety and quality initiatives within health services.

‘It helped me greatly understand the interaction between health service datasets and quality [and safety] work.’ Participant, Warrnambool

Positive feedback from the events suggests that that the events increased participants’ capability to understand and use these data to develop reporting tools which can be shared with staff and patients. VAHI will share the key findings and reflections on the roadshow with participants in 2019.

I look forward to continued improvements in the linking of resources for health services, in particular for small rural health services.’ Participant, Ballarat

VAHI’s Paulette Kelly, Acting Manager of Patient Experience and Outcomes, was overwhelmed by the positive response to the events and appreciated the opportunity to learn from our stakeholders.

‘It is clear that local and small health services require a refined approach to the collection and reporting of data to meet their needs. We will be seeking sector involvement in the development of a small and local health services strategy as part of the VHES reform program in 2019. We plan to establish a local and small health services advisory group as a subcommittee to our Patient Experience and Outcomes Advisory Committee,’ she said.

VAHI and SCV are delivering four metropolitan events in December. To join us at one of our remaining events, please register now.

Further roadshow events will be delivered in 2019 and we look forward to seeing you there! To register your interest, please contact vhes@vahi.vic.gov.au
