The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare (ACSQHC) released the Sepsis Clinical Care Standard on June 30 2022. We have reviewed and aligned the Safer Care Victoria sepsis resources to ensure we have a consistent national approach to identifying and managing sepsis. This has resulted in the following changes to the sepsis pathway and resources:

  • kept the term 'Severe sepsis', which practitioners are  familiar with, and the clinical indicators to identify sepsis, which align with the Sepsis Clinical Standard
  • changed Early Warning Signs to suspected sepsis
  • added a note to administer antibiotics within 60 minutes if there is an identified risk of organ dysfunction.
