Our Partnering in healthcare framework will help you improve healthcare and outcomes for Victorians by better involving consumers and their families. The framework gives you strategies to respond to the needs and expectations of consumers.

Make the framework work

Use the Partnering in Healthcare self-assessment tool

1. Review the domains and suggested priorities for health services outlined in the framework.

2. Use the Partnering in healthcare self-assessment tool to:

  • identify your service’s current strengths and challenges against each domain and identify areas in need of improvement
  • identify at least two domains and the priorities you will choose to focus on in the next 12 months.

An update on the statement of intent

We are working towards a refreshed Partnering in Healthcare Framework.

We recognise that the value of partnering is widely acknowledged across the sector and, following extensive consultation, the refresh intentionally shifts focus from positioning the value of partnering to supporting implementation and continued improvement of practice.

There will be some updates to language and format, however the key principles remain the same :good partnering practice relies on a personalised and holistic approach, ensuring equity, inclusion and accessibility, shared understanding, shared decision-making and meaningful collaboration.

We will no longer include the Statement of Intent within the framework itself and have removed the requirement for services to submit the Statement of Intent to Safer Care Victoria We recognise that partnering is now featured in many other frameworks and standards that carry reporting requirements.

We do plan on retaining the Statement of Intent in the Partnering in Healthcare toolkit, recognising that it remains a valuable way for many services to plan and align partnering across different levels of their organisations and networks. We welcome its continued use, as well as feedback on how it may be improved going forward.

In this next phase of partnering support, our ambition is to ensure fit-for-purpose partnering can scale across settings so that it becomes an embedded practice rather than a separate requirement. We look forward to working with you all to ensure we are creating tools and processes that best support your continued practice.

Check how your activities align with national standards

Partnering with consumers is a key requirement for health services to achieve national accreditation, under the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

To help your service meet this requirement, we have developed handy fact sheets (below) that map the five domains of our framework against the eight standards.

Each fact sheet includes:

  • Information about the domain and how it aligns to the standards
  • An outline of the eight standards
  • A set of core actions and relevant criteria, with new (second edition) criteria highlighted in bold with an asterisk*
  • Examples of evidence from the accreditation workbooks.

Background

Health services have different levels of success when it comes to partnering with consumers for better care and outcomes. Our framework responds to these challenges.

The framework was co-produced in 2018 with consumers, health professionals and community members.
