Overview
We help health services:
- prevent and learn from patient harm
- identify and deliver service improvements
- engage with consumers.
We support health services to get better and to help keep Victorians safe. See the Best practice & improvement section of this website for more information. We also run a host of improvement projects, including the 100K initiative.

Our structure
We are an administrative office of the Department of Health under Section 11 of the Public Administration Act 2004.
While we stand apart in many respects, we work closely with the department and other government agencies to ensure we collaborate, make good decisions and don’t duplicate efforts.

Our history
Back in 2016 it was recognised that Victoria needed a new approach to improve the quality and safety of healthcare.
That’s why we were established in 2017. And why we take a determinedly fresh and independent-minded approach to helping health services improve.
