It has been 12 months since we launched the Sustainable and Quality use of Diagnostics in Emergency Departments (SQuDs-ED) project across 11 health services and 19 emergency departments in metropolitan and regional Victoria.
The project reduces low-value pathology, imaging and interventions. It supports emergency departments to deliver care that is evidence-based, safe and focused on patient outcomes. By using resources more effectively, participating services are improving care for consumers while also reducing the environmental impact of healthcare.
Our impact to date
- 177,000+ unnecessary procedures avoided
- $3.55M saved
- 39,000+ kg CO2e prevented

We thank our participating health services, who will continue this work in 2026-27:
- Albury Wodonga Health
- Alfred Health
- Austin Health
- Barwon Health
- Central Gippsland Health Service
- Eastern Health
- Echuca Regional Health
