The Australian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS) has published their updated guideline regarding screening, diagnosis and classification of gestational diabetes.
This includes:
- the full publication in the Medical Journey of Australia (MJA)
- an article published in the Conversation
- frequently asked questions about the new guideline.
All public and private pathology services in Victoria agreed to change to the new ADIPS criteria as of 4 August 2025. You may have been aware of this change in Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) reports.
New diagnostic criteria
- Fasting plasma glucose (FPG): 5.3–6.9 mmol/L
- 1-hour plasma glucose (1hPG): ≥10.6 mmol/L
- 2-hour plasma glucose (2hPG): 9.0–11.0 mmol/L
We encourage health services to review the new criteria and proposed screening strategy and update their local guidelines and policies.
If you have any questions or require further guidance, please contact your pathology provider or clinical midwife consultant.
