About the framework
This framework sets clear expectations for:
- minimising and eliminating the use of restraint
- governing the use of restraint in accordance with legislation
- reporting to their service governing bodies.
It also outlines principles to uphold human rights, prioritise safety, and embed consumer and workforce-informed governance across health services.
The framework aligns with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard 5.35.
Background
We are leading a statewide initiative to strengthen governance and reduce restrictive practices across Victorian health settings. This initiative is guided by:
- an expert governance group
- an advisory group of sector leaders
- clinicians
- lived/living experience representatives
- an internal working group.
