Reducing peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) infections

About the project

This project aims to reduce overall Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) infections by improving:

  • identification of the need for peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) insertion
  • management of patients with a PIVC in Acute Care.

Reducing this hospital acquired complication and improving management may reduce the length of stay and potentially other complications, while improving patient outcomes and experience.

Safety Culture in Birth Suite

About the project

In this pilot project, we are partnering with 5 Victorian maternity services to strengthen safety culture in birth suites. The project focuses on practical ways to help maternity teams work together, communicate openly, and respond quickly to risks – making care safer for mothers and babies.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Acute Care Collaborative

The Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) acute care collaborative aims to improve the experience and outcomes for people with COPD in Victoria.  It will address the critical factors that increase the likelihood of readmission to hospital from COPD.

We are partnering and providing funding to Lung Foundation Australia to deliver a nurse-led collaborative aimed at improving patient experience, quality of care and health outcomes for people with COPD in Victoria.

Assisted Self-Management

This pilot will test a digitally enabled, patient-centred care model that combines clinician oversight and support with evidence-based self-management strategies.

The initiative aims to:
