Description

This clinical conversation webinar will cover using the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio test to improve the management of preeclampsia and related placental dysfunction disorders.

Preeclampsia remains a major cause of maternal and perinatal adverse pregnancy outcomes. The sFlt-1/PlGF ratio blood test is a measure of placental dysfunction, which is a key contributor to the development of preeclampsia. The test is therefore proving to be a clinically valuable investigation in assessing pregnant women with features suggestive of impending preeclampsia in that it helps distinguish between those who will develop preeclampsia and those who will not. This in turn facilitates appropriate maternity care pathway triage. In addition to this predictive value, the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio test can aid in the differential diagnosis of conditions that mimic preeclampsia; in stratifying small-for-gestational-age fetuses into those who are small but healthy compared to those with pathological fetal growth restriction; and in helping anticipate intrapartum complications at term related to placental insufficiency.
