This clinical conversation will focus on relevant clinical knowledge with respect to postnatal mental health, including prevention, early detection and interventions. It aims to enhance shared understanding and clinical responsibility among health professionals to support the mental health and wellbeing of women, new parents, their families and babies.

Presenter

Dr Kristine Mercuri, Consultant Psychiatrist

Kristine has worked for many years as a perinatal psychiatrist which has encompassed health promotion, education and training of psychiatrists, registrars and other health professionals. Kristine has undertaken mindfulness and body-based psychotherapy training with interest in trauma treatment. She is on the scientific committee of the RANZCP Congress meeting in Melbourne 2026. 

Most importantly, she remains a clinician and a resource for women and colleagues dealing with mental health issues in the peripartum period.

Kristine’s experience includes (but is not limited to):

  • Consultant Psychiatrist,  Royal Women’s Hospital - 14 years
  • Acting Director of Women’s Mental Health, Royal Women’s Hospital  - 2 years
  • Lead Psychiatrist, Werribee Mother Baby Unit -  6 years
  • Developed MindBabyBody Group intervention for depression and anxiety in pregnancy
  • Member of RANZCP Perinatal Special Interest Committee and involved in developing a training curriculum for Psychiatrists interested in a subspecialty certificate
  • Psychiatry supervisor and examiner for the college.
