Launched in 2021, the 100,000 Lives program is a five-year initiative to improve the safety and quality of healthcare for all Victorians. The program is a collaborative effort between Safer Care Victoria and health services across the state to enhance safety, reduce avoidable harm, and address the gaps in healthcare, especially in regional and diverse communities.

This year, the program reached a special milestone with 107,603 Victorians receiving better health care and outcomes through 19 improvement projects. In 202425 alone, 31,698 lives were improved, demonstrating the ongoing impact of safer, more effective care across Victoria.

This year the program saw:

  • 13 improvement projects across 50+ participating health services
  • support from 8 clinical leads, 18 consumer advocates, and 8 sector partners
  • 70+ events and activities, 50+ coaching calls and 40+ site visits
  • 1,400 healthcare workers taught innovation skills and 66 quality improvement advisors trained, building capability.

With one year to go, the program has transitioned into Safer Care Victoria’s broader Safer Together Program, uniting the work under one coordinated program.
