Access to clinical trials and innovative models of care should not depend on where a person lives.
Two new videos from the Australian Teletrial Program highlight how teletrials are supporting both clinical research and innovative models of care.
PRECISION-ITS trial
The PRECISION-ITS trial is led by Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in partnership with South West Healthcare. The trial demonstrates how regional and metropolitan partnerships can help make clinical research accessible to more people and why community involvement is critical to successful trial design.
“The advice I'd give to another PI [Principal Investigator] if they were considering using a teletrial model was to think about it early. It's only going to serve the community if it's built with the community.”
Associate Professor Marliese Alexander, PRECISION-ITS Principal Investigator
icuRESOLVE study
The icuRESOLVE study is a co-designed post-intensive care intervention delivered through the Australian Teletrial Program. The video highlights how teletrials can support innovative approaches to care and help connect people with support closer to home.
“There was a lot of things that you could reach out for, and that was really beneficial, and I feel like everyone that's been in ICU should have this offered.”
Bridgette, icuRESOLVE trial participant
Although the two studies address very different healthcare challenges, both demonstrate the flexibility of the teletrial model and its potential to improve access to research, care and support regardless of where people live.
These stories show how collaboration between metropolitan and regional health services can bring research, innovation and support closer to communities while strengthening opportunities for participation across Victoria.
