Aim
This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of aortic dissection epidemiology at the state and national levels. Building on these findings, we will outline evidence-based approaches for recognising and managing aortic dissection in diverse patient groups.
Background
Since 2018, several deaths linked to missed or delayed diagnoses of aortic dissection have been reported to Coroners Court of Victoria and to Safer Care Victoria. This highlights ongoing challenges in recognising and managing this life-threatening condition.
Key findings
The paper outlines eight key considerations and seven clinical practice points to support health service leaders, frontline clinicians, and educators in the identification and management of aortic dissection.
