Improving Childhood Asthma Management inner west pilot project

Our goal
To improve childhood asthma management in Melbourne's inner west
In the Improving Childhood Asthma Management project we're partnering with the following organisations to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for children living with asthma in Melbourne's inner west:
- Victoria's Department of Health
- National Asthma Council Australia
- Asthma Australia
- cohealth
- North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network
- Royal Children's Hospital
In 2019, the Victorian Emergency Minimum Dataset showed children in Melbourne's inner west experience higher rates of asthma-related emergencies compared to other children in Metropolitan Melbourne. We will be testing changes at hospitals, in general practices, community pharmacies, community health centres and schools to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for children living with asthma in the area.
NEXT STEPS
As of 1 July 2023, this project will move into a sustained phase, where current networks will continue to promote ongoing improvement work in the Inner West Melbourne suburbs. This work will then be evaluated as part of a research project with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute funded by Asthma Australia, with expected completion in December 2026.
