September marks Sepsis Awareness Month, with World Sepsis Day on 13 September. Many health services participating in our Victorian Sepsis Program launched local campaigns to raise awareness and improve outcomes for patients with sepsis.
On 28 and 29 August, we joined over 40 maternity teams from across Australia at Sydney Olympic Park for the second Every Week Counts II Learning Session. This session is a key learning opportunity in the national effort to safely prevent preterm and early term birth.
On 22 July 2025, the Check Again Network hosted its second Collaboration Day, bringing together teams from 18 health services across Victoria. The event was a powerful demonstration of shared learning, innovation, and collective commitment to improving penicillin allergy assessment and delabelling practices.

The Sentinel Events Annual Report 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 revealed a surge in reports of paediatric sentinel events, with a significant number highlighting issues in recognising and responding to patient deterioration. Alarmingly, families and carers felt unheard, and there was variable statewide compliance with The Victorian Children’s Tool for Observation and Response (ViCTOR) chart utilisation across Victoria.
