About the project
We are creating a consumer-facing resource to guide women and their families through every stage of pregnancy and birth, supporting informed decisions and the best possible outcomes.
This resource was recommend by the Victorian Maternity Taskforce to support informed choice and understanding of maternity care.
Through this project we will co-design the resource with maternity consumers and clinicians to:
- guide women and families through each stage of pregnancy and birth
- work with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) to provide culturally appropriate information and resources for First Nations women
- translate the maternity and newborn capability frameworks into consumer-friendly language
- help women and families easily find information about maternity and newborn care services, including what level of care each hospital or health service provides
- provide information about the kind of care consumers can expect after leaving hospital
- link to other evidence-based resources to ensure consistency
- embed respectful maternity and newborn care and perinatal mental health across the maternity continuum.
How to get involved
We will invite expressions of interest from clinicians and consumers to join 6 in-person workshops co-designing content on:
- perinatal mental health
- pre-conception women’s health services and sexual health hubs
- the first trimester of pregnancy
- the second and third trimesters of pregnancy
- labour and birth
- postpartum care (up to six weeks post birth).
