    Regional Clinical Trial Coordinating Centre

The Australian Teletrial Program-Victoria (ATP-Vic) is the Regional Clinical Trial Coordinating Centre (RCCC) for the national Australian Teletrial Program. We support the safe and effective delivery of teletrials across the state.

The Australian Teletrial Program is supported by a $75.2 million Medical Research Future Fund investment. This funding supports six participating states and territories to expand access to clinical trials for regional, rural and remote communities.

Queensland Health leads the national program, working with state-based health services to create a coordinated, harmonised approach to teletrials across Australia.

    What we do

At ATP-Vic, we provide state-based support and expert advice to:

    • health professionals and researchers
    • sponsors
    • human research ethics committees
    • research governance officers.

We support health services and research teams to establish teletrials, including:

    • establishing and supporting teletrial clusters and start-up activities
    • delivering education and training to build teletrial capability
    • providing funding assistance.

    Participating health services

Victorian health services are currently delivering teletrials as part of the Australian Teletrial Program-Victoria. These health deliver clinical trials closer to where people live.

    Teletrials

Teletrials are a flexible way to deliver clinical trials. They bring trial activities closer to home for people living in regional, rural and remote locations.

    In a teletrial:

    • clinicians and researchers across multiple health services work as one trial team known as a cluster
    • digital technologies support local delivery of trial activities at local health services
    • established trial centres partner with local sites to run clinical research.

Teletrials strengthen local health workforces and improve access to clinical trials and care. Our model is based on the COSA Australasian Teletrial Model.

    Benefits for patients

Teletrials offer a number of benefits for people taking part in clinical trials, including:

    • reduced travel, with most appointments and routine procedures completed at local health services
    • less disruption to daily life, helping people stay connected to work, family and community
    • consistent quality of care across primary and satellite sites
    • improved coordination through digital communication between trial teams.

    Victorian Teletrial Collaborative

The Victorian Teletrial Collaborative (VTC) provides a consistent approach to teletrial delivery. It has developed teletrial resources and training modules as part of a consistent state wide approach.

    VTC partners:

    • Trial Hub (Alfred Health)
    • Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance (VCCC Alliance)
    • Regional Trials Network Victoria (RTN Vic)
    • Australian Teletrial Program Victoria (ATP-Vic)
