    Teletrial Support Program

The Teletrial Support Program (TSP) supports clinical trial sites to enable participation in the Australian Teletrial Program. TSP funding strengthens site capacity and capability while improving access to clinical trials for participants in regional, rural and remote areas.

Two programs sit under the Teletrial Support Program in Victoria:

    TSP Program 1 – Start-Up Package Initiative

Supports eligible satellite sites to establish teletrials by providing early assistance to reduce administrative and start-up burden.

TSP Program 2 – Recruitment Boosting Support

Provides support to eligible primary and satellite sites based on recruitment activity for participants living in MM2–MM7 areas

Further information on both programs is available in the ATP-Vic Supplementary Information document available on the Teletrial Support Program resources page

    Program objectives

    The program:

    • supports clinical trial sites to expand their activity by implementing teletrials across regional, rural and remote locations
    • supports clinicians in regional, rural and remote areas to offer clinical trial participation locally
    • enables participants to access potential new treatments closer to home.

    Program eligibility

To be considered for either TSP program, trials must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the supplementary guidelines, including:

    • being a clinical trial as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO)
    • being conducted using the Australasian Teletrial Model, with a primary site and linked satellite sites under a supervision plan
    • having eligible participating sites in Victoria or other eligible locations
    • meeting postcode eligibility requirements - Modified Monash Model MM2–MM7 -  for participant recruitment
    • being registered in the Australian Teletrial Program REDCap database
    • holding the necessary ethics and governance approvals.

Full eligibility criteria are available in the ATP-Vic Supplementary Information document available on the Teletrial Support Program resources page.

    Support for registry-based studies

Eligible non-interventional, registry-based studies conducted using teletrial methodology may qualify for a Start-Up Support Package.

This Victorian‑only initiative supports workforce development, builds research infrastructure and promotes collaboration between sites. It helps to establish clusters that are better prepared for future teletrials.

    Registry‑based studies must:

    • be conducted under teletrial methodology with a primary site and linked satellite sites
    • have both the primary and satellite site(s) located in Victoria
    • involve satellite sites in MM2–MM7 locations
    • have ethics and governance approval
    • meet the eligibility criteria in the ATP-Vic Supplementary Information – Addendum available on the Teletrial Support Program resources page.

    Teletrial Equipment Funding Initiative

The Teletrial Equipment Funding Initiative supports capability development at regional, rural and remote Victorian health services. Funding provides eligible Victorian sites to address gaps in clinical trial equipment and supports the conduct of high-quality  teletrials.
