Safer Care for Kids

In 2021-22, we saw an increase in sentinel events related to patient deterioration, particularly in children and young people. In response, we proactively brought together more than 100 health care leaders, clinicians, patients, and families to consider how we might improve the safety and quality of care for children accessing emergency healthcare in Victoria. 

This resulted in three key recommended actions:

From 100,000 Lives to Safer Together

When we launched the 100,000 Lives program in 2021, the goal was ambitious: to improve the care and outcomes of 100,000 Victorians through safer, more effective and more person-centred healthcare.

Five years later, the program has surpassed that goal, improving the lives of almost 160,000 Victorians across the state.

A significant milestone for clinical governance maturity across Victoria

30 June 2026 marked an important milestone for Victorian health services, with clinical governance maturity assessments now substantially completed across the sector. This is a significant step forward in strengthening clinical governance capability and establishing a shared understanding of governance strengths, opportunities and priorities for improvement.

Major milestone in co-design of My Maternity Journey resource

In June 2026, we hosted our sixth and final My Maternity Journey expert working group workshop. This marks an important milestone in the co-design of this new statewide maternity resource. This resource will guide Victorian women and their families through every stage of pregnancy and birth.

Over the past 6 months, more than 40 expert working group members have contributed to the co-design process through monthly in-person workshops and content review.
